Richard Shaw doesn’t believe in love. He does believe in getting what he wants, and Scarlet Hughes is next on his list. In his world, there is nothing he can’t have. All he needs to do is find her weakness.
Scarlet is a single mother trying to make ends meet. A nightmare from her past keeps her cut off from men and relationships, but a steaming kiss one afternoon in the office leads to her shame.
For one week, Scarlet will give Richard her body and in return he’ll give her the means of giving her son a good future.
But when her past comes back to haunt her, Scarlet can’t hide from her fear any longer, and Richard must risk everything to claim what is rightfully his.
Will Scarlet find it in her heart to forgive him?
Emma's Review:
Contract of Shame is the second in the Unlikely Love series. I highly recommend starting with first to really get the whole picture. In many ways this is an engaging, memorable love story. There is copious amounts of sizzling sex and far too much testosterone and male arrogance, but at its heart, the story is sweet. Scarlett and Richard both have pasts that define them. They are often blundering in their interactions with each other but their emotions are clear to the reader. There are some heartbreaking moments in this one and I honestly loved both characters. Like the first book, our hero acts like a jerk but he's no match for love. This one like the last carries a warning about forced seduction but please don't let that deter you. I do read some 'forced seduction/dubious consent' stories and these truly are neither. They are hot, sexy and often touching stories about the long road to love.
Scarlett was a single mother trying to raise a chronically ill son. When her boss made a shameful offer; her body in exchange for financial support for her son, she couldn't turn him down. It's not that she isn't attracted to Richard, but Scarlett is hiding a painful past. Richard had wanted Scarlett for some time. He was man who knew how to get what he wanted. However, his time with Scarlett confused him and when her past returns and threatens her, Richard discovers his feelings are very clear.
